Kaua'i O'o

Double Drabble

"The last recording of the Kaua'i O'o is of a lone male waiting for a response when there would be none." Rated G Layle & Keiss

When he's too tired to keep flying, Keiss lands around rivers and ponds. He won't admit that it's because he misses the sea, but Layle figures. It's the undertone in everything he does. Standing on the edge of the water, eyes shut, he waits for the crashing of waves which will never come. If it's late enough and he thinks Layle is asleep, Keiss sings.

It's beautiful, striving for nothing and well practiced. The last time Layle visited the Selkie Guild, he asked Vaigali who said they were sea songs. Things they picked up along the way and Keiss had been raised with. Though, the concept of having the voice for singing never crossed Keiss' mind until he reached shore, and that is when he stopped singing freely.

He would never win awards nor fame, but the frogs were his only competition that night. Keiss' voice carried well across the open stretch of water and Layle quietly hummed along to the same song he hears every other time they spend the night by the water. He is almost sad when the end comes.

"In the end shall bloom a flower. Sacred light reveals its power." The homesick Selkie then quietly leaves the riverside.

Yeah that last bit is from the poem in FFCC. I'm really fond of the headcanon that Keiss is from Leuda and so it felt natural to include.
